My Vision
My Vision is to work for excellence through education, training and empowering our employees to provide the highest professional services to the citizens of Scioto County.
My Experience
I am a life-long resident of Scioto County, minus my military service and the time my family lived in Manchester, Ohio. This was during my first and second grades, when my father worked at the power station near Aberdeen, Ohio.
I am a 1982 graduate of Portsmouth High School. Afterwards, I attended Shawnee State Community College for one year prior to joining the United States Air Force. During my military service I worked as a security police officer.
After serving in the military, I worked at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility as a correctional officer, prior to having the great honor of working at the Portsmouth Police Department.
While at the Portsmouth Police Department, I worked my way through the ranks from patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. Additionally, I served as the acting chief of police. During my service with Portsmouth, I served on the local drug task force as a patrolman and as a sergeant.
After retiring from the Portsmouth Police Department, I then had the pleasure of working at Shawnee State University. While at Shawnee State University, I transitioned the security department into the Department of Public Safety, a hybrid of both police and security officers.
During my 33 years in law enforcement, I have been trained as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), certified as a volunteer firefighter, and received my bachelor’s degree from Shawnee State University.
My Goals
The Goals For My First Term Are:
-
I will enhance school safety.
-
Consolidate services (saving tax dollars) by establishing a centralized 9-1-1 Dispatch Center.
-
Re-establish the local drug task force to work jointly with the federal drug task force that is
housed locally.
-
Re-establish the K-9 Program
-
Enhance our partnerships with all local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
-
Add additional “Road Deputies” to enhance safety and reduce response times.
-
Leverage new and improving technologies, making it easier for our residents to engage with their Sheriff’s Office.
-
Build trust and community partnerships with the people whom we serve, specifically hosting community roundtables to receive input and hear the needs of citizens of our county.
