NEWS RELEASE

May 27th, 2026

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reports that the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 12:57 a.m. on May 26, 2026, regarding an incident at Super Quick, located at 1051 Galena Pike in West Portsmouth, Ohio.

According to the caller, a male subject arrived at the business and attempted to obtain approximately $30 in gasoline without paying in advance. When the store clerk went outside and advised the individual that prepayment was required, the male began acting erratically and stated that he was taking the gasoline for free. The suspect then assaulted the clerk. Two juvenile males who witnessed the incident attempted to assist the clerk and were also assaulted. The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Sheriff Thoroughman stated that a deputy responded to the business, took an initial report, and forwarded the case to a detective for further investigation. Deputies also patrolled the surrounding area in an attempt to locate the suspect, but were unsuccessful at that time.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on May 26, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office received another call reporting that a male subject was driving around the Otway area, acting suspiciously and appearing to be under the influence of drugs. The vehicle matched the description of the one believed to be involved in the earlier robbery at Super Quick. Deputies responded, located the vehicle, and detained the driver. The suspect was transported to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office for questioning and was subsequently charged in connection with the robbery.

Arrested was Troy Roop Jr., 33, whose last known address is 443 Sandusky St., Conneaut, Ohio. Roop has been charged with:

1. One count of Robbery, a felony of the second degree

2. Three counts of Assault, misdemeanors of the first degree

Roop is currently being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $78,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court today, May 27, 2026.

This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.

Been going through the Norwegian online gaming regulatory landscape lately, mostly trying to understand how Norsk Tipping's monopoly model holds up against unlicensed offshore operators targeting Norwegian IPs. The KYC and AML compliance variance between jurisdictions is genuinely messy. https://norskegamblingsider.net/ has a comparison table that's functional enough, though the UI feels cluttered and the licensing breakdown could be more granular. From what I can tell, MGA-licensed operators generally meet baseline RTP audit requirements, but Curacao-registered ones vary wildly. The 2026 picture for Norwegian players is basically the same structural ambiguity it's been for years. Do your own verification before committing to any platform.
