DAYTON MAN ARRESTED ON MAJOR FELONY DRUG CHARGES FOLLOWING STATE ROUTE 104 TRAFFIC STOP

PORTSMOUTH, OH – Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman and Portsmouth Police Chief Debby Brewer announce the arrest of a Dayton, Ohio man on multiple felony drug charges following an investigation conducted by the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force in coordination with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
As part of the ongoing investigation, on Monday, August 24, 2026, at approximately 10:56 p.m., Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on State Route 104 in Lucasville, Ohio, for traffic violations. During the stop, law enforcement seized approximately 41 grams of suspected fentanyl and approximately 33 grams of suspected crack cocaine, with an estimated street value of $9,013.
Arrested was Shannon Smyth, 48, of Dayton, Ohio. Smyth was charged with:
1. Two (2) counts of Trafficking in Drugs (Felonies of the 1st Degree)
2. Two (2) counts of Possession of Drugs (Felonies of the 1st Degree)
Smyth was incarcerated in the Scioto County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The case will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County Grand Jury for consideration of additional felony charges.
