Impaired Driving 4th of July Traffic Enforcement Blitz

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman states that his office will be highly visible and cracking down on impaired drivers during the Fourth of July holiday reporting period, which begins on Thursday, July 3 rd and will run through Sunday, July 6 th . The Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies out working overtime during this period. The overtime will be paid through a grant that the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has received.
“A safe environment for residents and visitors of our county will always be a focus for the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office,” said Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman. “Coordinated efforts with other law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to stop deaths associated with impaired driving continues to be a main focus for our deputies.”
Sheriff Thoroughman advised that “Impaired driving remains a leading cause of preventable crashes and loss of life. Ohio saw a 13% increase in alcohol-impaired driving in fatal crashes from 2023 through 2024.”
