Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reports that deputies have arrested a Portsmouth woman following a stabbing incident that occurred in Lucasville on Thursday, June 4.
At approximately 5:53 p.m., the Scioto County 911 communication center received a call requesting emergency medical services for a male who had been stabbed. Deputies arrived on the scene and requested a detective to lead the investigation.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Larry William Gill of Lucasville. Mr. Gill was initially transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being flown to an out-of-town trauma center. He has since undergone two surgeries for a chest wound and remains in critical condition.
Through their investigation, detectives determined that the victim and his family were staying at a
residence on Ridge Lane in Lucasville. A suspect, identified as 40-year-old Rheena Nichole Shaw of Portsmouth, had visited the home earlier that day. As Shaw was departing the residence, she allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest before fleeing the scene on foot. Law enforcement later located and detained Shaw without incident.
On Thursday, June 11, Shaw appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court for arraignment. She is currently held on a $100,000 bond for the charge of attempted murder. The full list of charges against Shaw includes:
Two counts of felonious assault (Felony of the 2nd Degree)
One count of attempted murder (Felony of the 1st Degree)
Sheriff Thoroughman stated that this remains an active, ongoing investigation and that additional charges will be presented to a future session of the Scioto County Grand Jury.
