September 19, 2025

On September 18, 2025, the Southern Ohio Organized and Major Crimes Task Force, in coordination with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County Prosecutor’s Office, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Waverly Police Department, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, executed multiple search warrants as part of an investigation into the distribution of drugs obtained illegally on the black market and sold to customers as purported weight-loss medications.
These substances, not approved by the FDA, pose significant risks to the community due to their unknown and potentially dangerous contents. Investigators believe the scheme was designed to generate substantial illegal profits while endangering public health.
As a result of the operation, Haley Borders was arrested at her residence in Otway, Scioto County, on warrants stemming from indictments filed in Pike County. Evidence of investigative value was seized at multiple locations in both Scioto and Pike Counties.
The Southern Ohio Organized and Major Crimes Task Force would like to thank the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for providing two K9 units to assist in the search of the property.
This case remains under investigation and will be submitted to the Prosecutors’ Offices in Scioto and Pike Counties for consideration of additional criminal charges.

Selling black-market chemicals as “weight-loss meds” is such a gross scam because people already feel desperate. I’m glad they’re treating it like a major crimes issue, not just a slap-on-the-wrist drug case. Weirdly this made me think about how easy it is to tools that make shady stuff look legit online.
These “weight-loss” black market operations feel like the new version of pill-mill stuff, just dressed up with modern marketing and a wellness vibe. Good to see Scioto/Pike working together because the county line thing is always how people try to dodge accountability. Investigations like this are basically shifting through signals until something finally clicks, kind of like this example where one small shift changes everything.
Calling them “purported weight-loss medications” is doing a lot of work — it’s basically counterfeit medicine with who-knows-what in it. I’d love to see more emphasis on where people are finding these (gyms? social media? word of mouth?) because that’s the choke point. Side tangent: people will trust anything that looks polished online, whether it’s a fake med listing or even stuff like this page that makes images look “official” in two clicks.
What gets me is how many people will trust a “weight-loss shot” from someone’s DMs or a pop-up “clinic” without asking basic questions. I hope they put out some public guidance on what to look for, because a lot of folks honestly can’t tell legit from sketchy. On a totally different note, the internet is full of “quick change” promises — even harmless ones like this thing — and people get conditioned to believe everything is instant.
