Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman states that on Wednesday, June 28th, at 12:49 p.m. his office received a 9-1-1 call from 1414 3rd St., West Portsmouth. A female caller advised that a male had broken out windows to the house, fired shots from a gun,and made claims to shoot deputies.
Sheriff Thoroughman stated deputies responded to the location, with the assistance of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. They learned that the male suspect had fled on foot and both agencies began canvasingthe area. Detectives placed a ping on the suspect’s cell phone, acquiring a location on the suspect. The “ping” showed that thesuspect was in the “bottoms” area in West Portsmouth, across from State Route 73/104.
Deputies and detectives began searching the area and located himhiding in a brushy area. The suspect fled from deputies, running through the field. Detectives later observed the suspect walking across the Twin Bridges (U.S. 52) around 3:36 p.m.
As the detectives attempted to appended the suspect, he jumped off the bridge, landing about 15 feet below in a brushy area on the Portsmouth side of the river. He then continued to flee on foot towards the field area located behind Bertha Ave. in Portsmouth.
Sheriff Thoroughman stated that the surrounding area was secured with the assistance of the Portsmouth Police. At approximately 4:10 p.m., the suspect was observed by a Common Pleas Probation Officer hiding behind a tree in the grassy farm land behind Bertha Ave.
With the assistance of local law enforcement, the suspect was apprehended without incident. A 9mm handgun was recovered from the suspect.
Portsmouth Ambulance responded to the scene to treat the suspect for minor injuries which resulted from jumping off the bridge.
Arrested was Jonathan Mosley, age 35, of West Portsmouth, Ohio. Mosley has been charged with Attempted Murder, a felony of the 1st degree, Improperly Discharging a Firearm at or into a Habitation, a felony of the 2nd degree, Felonious Assault, a felony of the 2nd degree, Having Weapons under Disability, a felony of the 3rd degree, Violation of a Protection Order, a felony of the 3rd degree, Discharging a Firearm on or near a Prohibited Premises, a felony of the 3rd degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor of the 4th degree. Mosley is currently being held on a $197,750.00 bond.
Sheriff Thoroughman stated the arrest was the result, once again, of all local law enforcement agencies working as one to make our community safer.
Sheriff Thoroughman stated that this is still an ongoing investigation that could result in more charges being presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury on a later date.
