NEWS RELEASE

June 14, 2021

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman stated that his Office has been contacted by citizens,

advising of a scam.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating numerous calls made to Scioto County residents,

claiming to be employees of the Sheriff’s Office.

The caller is asking people to go to Walmart and purchase numerous pre-paid gift cards.

The caller then advises the resident to send them the info on the cards, to avoid having a warrant for their arrest issued on them.

This is a scam and should be ignored.

Scary stuff though, huh? These phone scams really get your heart racing for a second. I always try to cross-check info before I panic, and reading UleFone reviews helped me spot red flags with caller IDs. Honestly, it’s amazing how fast these scammers adapt, so it’s best to stay calm and never pay over the phone. One more thing - if someone says they’re from the sheriff’s office and you’re not sure, hang up and call them directly.
